Casa de la Abuela

Casa de la Abuela is a new tapas bar set to open in Mykonos, inspired by the warmth and nostalgia of a grandmother’s home — a place filled with stories, memories and authentic hospitality.

Medusa Design was commissioned to create the visual identity for the brand, translating this emotional narrative into a distinctive design system that balances Mediterranean tradition with a contemporary aesthetic.

The goal was to craft an identity that captures the unique atmosphere of the space while establishing a strong and recognizable brand.

Task

The Casa de la Abuela logo is built around two core pillars: a playful typographic wordmark and a visual symbol representing the grandmother — the “soul” of the brand. The design combines storytelling, hospitality, and Mediterranean warmth, creating a visual identity that simultaneously evokes nostalgia and contemporary aesthetics. A key element of the logo is the custom typeface, designed exclusively for Casa de la Abuela. Its slightly irregular lines give the wordmark a playful, warm, and welcoming character, inspired by the atmosphere of a grandmother’s home, while maintaining strong readability. The wordmark is arranged in a hierarchical and dynamic composition, with the greatest visual emphasis placed on the word “Abuela”, which represents the emotional and conceptual core of the brand. The grandmother symbol acts as a visual ambassador of the brand, adding personality and strengthening the storytelling behind the identity. Its minimal linear style makes it flexible and highly legible across different sizes and applications, while also allowing it to function independently from the wordmark in digital media, packaging, or merchandise. The color palette creates an immediate visual association with the Cycladic landscape, Mykonos, and Mediterranean aesthetics, giving the brand a strong sense of place, recognizability, and high visual contrast. Overall, the logo communicates a brand that is friendly, warm, authentic, and full of character — qualities that perfectly reflect a tapas bar aiming to create a relaxed yet memorable hospitality experience.
